We just could not be any more proud of Camden as we are right now! The epidural is OUT!! He bypassed IV meds and is taking oral pain medication. He is doing awesome with his liquid intake and is off IV fluids. His belly/intestines woke up from surgery and we just ordered him a cheese and mayo sandwich (his favorite), and goldfish. He walked the halls a few times today! We GOT this!! Thank you everyone for your prayers and support! And thank you JESUS!! *********PLEASE, PLEASE PRAY FOR NO BONE CANCER ON FRIDAY'S SCAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!*********
So we had a good day today! His pain medication was increased to help manage some abdominal discomfort. He REFUSED to get out of bed, but had no choice. Once up he and I snuggled in the chair and he fell asleep for awhile. He stayed in the chair 4 1/2 hrs today. He still has his epidural so walking isn't an option yet (neither is eating or drinking; as he still has his NG tube...boooo). Hoping his NG tube can get clamped and then removed. We would love for him to eat and put weight on before his bone marrow transplant. Starting to pray for those bone metastases on his right leg and on his spine...praying for a complete healing. His repeat scans are next week. PRAYERS!! Thank you everyone!
Good morning! We made it to the oncology floor late last night. Camden is going well. 3 tubes came out, 3 more to go. He is comfortable if he is not moving, but as you can imagine he has pain with sitting up and rolling. Surgery's goal for today is to see him out of bed. (Side note: his ANC is 9,500....Good Job Cam!!) We are still in the ICU because there is not an available bed on the oncology or surgical floor. He is medically stable and could have left the ICU this morning....waiting here or waiting there....just wanting him to feel better fast so we can head home. Camden's pain is well controlled. He is comfortable, just very upset about the tube in his nose and he hates the fact that he is not allowed to eat or drink. He is frequently requesting Papa T's pizza, 5 juices boxes, 5 apples juices, and 1 chocolate milk. We are hoping to leave the ICU later today. Ron and I didn't sleep much, but as we expected! The surgeon spoke to us and is very pleased with how the surgery went and feels that the entire tumor has been removed. Camden is doing well. We are waiting for the completion of his bone marrow biopsy and for Cam to be transferred to the ICU! He will be extubated in the OR but the NG tube and other lines will remain. Praying for a speedy recovery! Thank you for your prayers throughout the day....please continue to keep us in your thoughts! The 1:00 update: all lines have been placed in accordance to Camden's needs (epidural, A-line, CVL, additional IVs in arms and feet, intubation, etc, etc, etc). We were just informed that the tumor has been resected away from his vena cava artery (which was the area of high concern and we were not certain if the tumor would have been able to be removed in this area). THANK GOD!!! This is excellent news! We await another 1 1/2 for next update and hopefully we will be close to having the entire mass be resected! Thank you for your love and support!!!!!!!!! xo
Well today was an extremely long and busy day with appointment after appointment!! Camden and I just checked ourselves into the Ronald McDonald House (which is very nice). With the back to back appointments we haven't been able to eat yet, other than the snacks I packed. Ron is on his way up here still after work. Hopefully he will be here soon! Without any final reports, it looks like his heart is in good shape. He does have some high pitch hearing loss from the chemo medication (not requiring intervention at this point). It will be continually monitored. His lab counts appear to be in a good range to safely proceed with surgery tomorrow. The times have slightly changed. We will be at the hospital for 7am for an 8:30am surgery! Feeling all sorts of emotions right now but continuously praying that the good Lord is on our side!! Xoxo
Tomorrow is an appointment filled day for me and Camden. Camden will finish off his pre-transplant testing requirements (hearing, heart, etc) and we have a clinic appointment and pre-op appointments. We are enjoying our days here at home and we had an amazing family date night last night at the drive-in. My heart breaks as I pack Emma's and our bags again, but I am comforted in knowing these days will soon be past us too.
I have a favor to ask all of you: I am sure that I will find out more specifics about the surgery day tomorrow during our pre-op appointment: but at this point I know that we have to be there at 6:00 AM and surgery begins at 7:30 AM. Surgery will be 6-8 hours. Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." I am asking all of you for a "moment of silence" at 7:30 am on Wednesday. If you believe in prayer, please take a moment to say a prayer for Camden that his surgery will be simple and safe and that ALL cancer is removed from him...that his recovery will be quick and easy! If you do not believe in prayer, please just send us your positive thoughts and best wishes. Please set your clocks, alarms, cellphone, internal timer to 7:30am and join me, Ron, and our families in a "moment for Camden"!! Thank you for your continued support during this unimaginably difficult time. As always, xoxo |
